Power Skating & Learn to Skate

  • Thursday mornings - PeeWee/12U/Bantam/15U/High School
  • 10 Sessions:  $450
  • Drop In - $50 

Sign up for sessions from September - December.  Groups limited to 6 players.  Spots must be reserved at least 48 hours in advance with a drop-in payment.  If you register for a 10 session prepayment, this will hold your spot.

Katrina Stewart is a professional skating coach located in Minneapolis.  She has 20+ years of experience working with both figure skaters and hockey players.  Katrina has served as the Hockey Director for SQSA and she is the owner of True North Power Skating.  She has served as the skating skills coach for MHA since the 2018.

Skating is the foundation of hockey!  Hockey players need to be able to be able to move from inside edge to outside edge with power.   True North offers power skating classes for Minneapolis Hockey players that want to improve their skating to improve their game!

SQSA Learn to Skate

Classes run in sessions Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer

  • Check the SQSA schedule for specific dates/times for each session

HOCKEY SKILLS: Skating skills for beginning hockey players. Fast-paced, forward & backward skating, stopping, and turning. Must be able to skate independently/unassisted to participate. Not intended for first time skaters. Suggested prerequisites include Tots and/or PreAlpha or similar.  No sticks. Pads/breezers optional.

TOTS 1 (beginners ages 3-5): Learning is fun with songs and games! This is the perfect place for 3-5 year-old beginners who want to start their hockey and/or figure skating careers off right, or just want to be able to skate independently with friends and family. On- and off-ice sit and stand with skates, mechanics of falling and marching, dip in place and beginning gliding, forward swizzle, backward wiggles.

TOTS 2 (beginners ages 3-5, pre-requisite Tots 1): Learning is fun with songs and games! This is the perfect place for 3-5 year-old beginners who have take Tots 1 and want to start their hockey and/or figure skating careers off right, or just want to be able to skate independently with friends and family. On- and off-ice sit and stand with skates, mechanics of falling and marching, dip in place and beginning gliding, forward swizzle, backward wiggles. 

PRE-ALPHA (beginners ages 6-12, and skaters who have passed Tots): This is the perfect place for 6-12 year-olds who want to start their hockey and/or figure skating careers off right, or just want to be able to skate independently with friends and family. Mechanics of falling, pushing and gliding forward and backward, swizzles, wiggles, one foot proficiency, beginning stops, T pushes, curves, two foot hops and turns.
