Minneapolis Hockey -
Come Join One of Minnesota's Greatest and Longest Traditions!

Minneapolis hockey has a long and storied history. Our teams have competed in high school state hockey tournaments, we have developed great college players, olympians/national team members (yep, we had a guy on the Miracle 1980 team!, Mike Ramsey), and NHLers (yep, they have even hoisted hockey's biggest prize, the Stanley Cup - Tom Chorske 1995 New Jersey Devils)!

....but our program isn't just about developing superstars. Its about teaching kids of all abilities about life's lessons all while having fun through the game of hockey. If they make it big some day.....in business, government, non-profit world, or hockey...we hope much of what they learned through our program got them there! In the meantime, they will develop special friendships while having a great time at the rink.
MIGHTY MITES - AGES 4-8

It all starts with our Mighty Mite/U6 program for our 4-8 year old players that are new to the game. Twice a week we get them on the ice enjoying skating, hitting a puck around, and building confidence. After one or two years of Mighty Mites, they 'graduate' into our Mite/U8 program. At mites, we have several levels to accomodate a players skills. Our overriding philosophy is that we want kids to play at an appropriate skill level for their skills.
We have the Mite programs for the boys and the "U6/U8" programs for the girls. At this level, they skate 2-3 times per week....sometimes more if the parents and coaches want to have a few skates outside.

LIFE AFTER MITES

As they grow older, they move into the upper levels of Minneapolis Hockey - Squirts/U10, Peewees/U12, and Bantam/U14. At all levels, we provide teams that match a player's skill level. Every other year, we take a group of 13 and 14 year olds to Sweden to play hockey and bandy against Swedish kids while learning about the country and their culture. This trip is open to players of all skill levels. A great way to finish a youth hockey career!

Based on Minnesota Hockey registration rules, you must register with the association where you are located geographically or where you attend school. Though Washburn and Southwest work together on their programs and most likely will merge operations in the next few years, we still have separate Minnesota Hockey charters, thus you must register with the association where you live or go to school. Click on the "Where Do I Register" button to determine which association you should register with.
