Squirt Clinics and Evaluations

2023-24 Season

Preseason Checklist:

  • Registration – Registration for the 2023-24 season is open. Please register your child as soon as possible.  This will allow us to confirm how many teams we need to form for the upcoming season (registration link will be on the home page).

  • Parent Meeting - This meeting was held in early September and its goal was to provide information and answer questions about the upcoming season.  A copy of the presentation is attached at the bottom of this page.

  • Clinics – Preseason on-ice clinics begin after Labor Day and run through Oct 2nd. Please note your child will need to be registered to participate in the clinics.

  • Team Evaluations – Evaluations will begin on  Oct 5th for the A Pool  and complete on Oct 9th.  Evaluations for the B1/B2/C Pool will begin on October 10th and complete on October 15th.  See Parents Meeting presentation attached below for more details.

  • Goalie evaluations – Goalie specific evaluations will occur on September 23rd and 24th.   Goaltending skills will continue to be evaluated during the team evaluations in October.

  • Coaches – If you would like to help with preseason clinics and evaluations, you will need to be registered and have all certifications completed with the exception of your age group specific renewal before being eligible to assist on the ice.  There will be a coaches meeting for all registered coaches later in September.

  • Mandatory PCA Parenting Class - See below for more information.

PLEASE NOTE - ALL SQUIRT TEAMS WILL PARTICIPATE IN A TOURNAMENT THANKSGIVING WEEKEND.

If you have questions, please contact Kevin Bloss (Squirt Director) or Darrin Hunter (Squirt Coordinator) using the contact information below.

If you have goalie specific questions, Joel Laing is the Minneapolis Hockey Goalie Coordinator and can be reached at joellaing20@hotmail.com or 612-310-3984

MANDATORY TRAINING FOR SQUIRT/10U PARENTS

Please note that all NEW Squirt and 10U parents (this includes all parent coaches) are REQUIRED to participate in a one hour Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) session this fall.  If you attended a PCA Parenting Session last season, you do not need to attend again this season.

PCA is an organization that promotes positive development of youth athletes in all sports. At least one parent of every Squirt player must attend one of the PCA sessions but we encourage all parents to attend if possible.  Again, if you attended last season you do not need to attend this season.  If you have younger kids coming up, taking this session now will cover you for the younger kids when they hit Squirt/10U as well - but of course you are welcome to take a refresher if desired.

In following with many other metro area hockey associations, the class is mandatory. Your child will not be able to participate in games until you have completed the session.

More details regarding dates/times/locations will be available once we have that information.  If you have any questions, please contact SafeSport Coordinator, Bob DeHaven - safesport@mplshockey.com.
